Surrounded by Cloud Forest on the Eastern Slope of Ecuador at 2000 meters above sea level, Chontas Birdwatching Spot is located in the Chontas Sector, Cosanga, Quijos, Napo, only 50 meters away from the main road Quito-Tena. On 30 hectares of Cloud Forest, is the perfect place to birdwatch, take amazing pictures and go on a leisurely hikes.

Hummingbird Observatory

We have registered 17 species of hummingbirds in our reserve. The rarest specie that visit our feeders and garden is the Greenisg Puffleg, It can be seen every day at our reserve among as: Speckled Hummingbird, Collared Ina, Bronzy Inca, Long-tail Sylph, Fawn-breasted Brilliant, Chestnut-breasted, Gorgeted Woodstar.

With more than 1,650 species of birds, Ecuador is the fourth country with the most bird species in the world. The place is strategically located in one of the best bird watching areas in the country as it is surrounded by two natural areas; Antisana Ecological Reserve and Sumaco Napo Galeras National Park.

The easiest way to get to our reserve is to follow the route on Google Maps, look for us as "Chontas Birdwatching Spot (Observatorio de Colibries Chontas)".

Our Hummingbird Observatory is always open for those who wish to support our family project. You can visit our observatory unaccompanied, just follow the trail to the side of our parking lot.
