KNOW ABOUT OUR STORY
In 1940, my grandparents, Gustavo Aldaz and Estela Armas, received a small plot of land from their parents to make their home. Over time they were acquiring more land properties in the Chontas Sector, Cosanga. The lands were used mainly for the activity of cattle ranching and extraction of wood, these were the main sources of income for the sustenance of the family in those times. Currently, much of the forest has been sold and converted into plots of land for cattle ranching and to be divided among family.
Chontas Birdwatching Spot is a family project and the main objective is to protect and conserve 30 hectares of cloud forest, and provide job opportunities for the people who live in the Chontas Sector through the development of birdwatching activity. Through this activity we also want to make people aware of the importance of protecting nature.
My name is Fernando Aldaz and I´m responsable of this project.
